LEAP PROGRAM - for AP Students

The application for 2017 LEAP PROGRAM is now open.

 

The College Board and Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) are happy to announce the launch of the Language LEAP (Learning, Engaging, Applying, Propelling): Chinese Program in the summer of 2017. The Language LEAP: Chinese Program is a unique opportunity for US institutions to bring students to participate in a two-week study abroad program in Beijing, China from July 2-16, 2017.

The Language LEAP: Chinese Program is overseen and administered by Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters. The program will focus on the application of knowledge about Chinese language and culture in a real-life, immersive environment. During the two-week program students will study and live at Beijing Language and Culture University, one of China’s top universities for linguistic and cultural studies. The program will consist of a mix of Chinese language and culture coursework as well as study visits to cultural and historical sites in Beijing. In order to foster a truly immersive environment, the entire program will be strictly administered in Chinese.

Cost: international airfare, All costs in China, including room and board, transportation, activities and sightseeing will be covered by Hanban (Headquarters of Confucius Institute in China).

 

Program participants are responsible for:

 

  1. Round trip airfare to the gateway city--likely Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Seattle

  2. Program application fee of $500

  3. International travel insurance

  4. Visa application fee (estimated $160)

 

Eligibility: High School students must meet the following requirements:

  1. Have American citizenship

  2. Be in grades 9-12 AND be over 16 years old.

  3. Be enrolled in AP Chinese Language for the 2017-18 school year.

  4. Have a B or better in Chinese

  5. Be a well-rounded student

  6. Be healthy and able to travel internationally

 

Chaperones must meet the following requirements:

  1. Respect and understand Chinese culture

  2. Be approachable and responsible

  3. Have at least one year experience in K-12 education and working with students

  4. Be healthy and able to travel internationally

  5. Be under 50 years old

 

How to apply: 

1. Download, fill out, and submit the application document.

2. Attach teacher or  administrator recommendation letter.

3. Attach your statement about why you want to participate

4. Attach a copy of your passport's photo page or a copy of your passport application.

5. Save all documents as ONE pdf.

6. Email completed application pdf  to Bonnie Flint by March 31. 2017.
